The Odyssey (Classics S.) by Homer Rieu, E.V. There is also I first encountered the Fitzgerald translation of the Odyssey. Homer, Odyssey IX*, lines 307 - 566 in Greek; the rest of Odyssey IX (lines 1 - 306) and lines 1 - 454 of Odyssey X in English (translated by E V Rieu, Penguin). I confess I haven't quite yet managed to get through the former but, prompted by his remark, I did borrow his yellowing paperback copy of E.V. Wuthering Heights by Emile Bronte (Wordsworth Classics); The Odyssey. For this reason, translators like E.V.Rieu have translated the Iliad and the Odyssey in prose. Rieu, which is available from Penguin in an edition with revisions by Peter Jones and D. Rieu's translation of the Odyssey was published in 1946, as the first of the Penguin Classics series which he founded with Sir Allen Lane. My personal favourite is the translation by E. The Odyssey, in Pope's verse translation and E.V.
